To prepare multinational profile of traditional lacquer to submit UNESCO

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has just had the direction of Vietnam to participate in building multinational profile of traditional lacquer to submit to United Nations’ Education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO) to be in the list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

To prepare multinational profile of traditional lacquer to submit UNESCO

Deputy Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in collaboration with ministries, branches and localities to participate and cooperate with South Korea and the countries having intangible cultural heritage of traditional lacquer to build multinational profile. The Prime Minister will allow submissions to be considered for enrollment in the UNESCO List of intangible cultural heritage.

Vietnam lacquer

Vietnam lacquer is similar to that of other countries in term of decorativeness, applicability, serving for daily life and beliefs of the people. From the first half of the twentieth century, Vietnam traditional lacquer also adds a new value. It’s taken traditional paint material into the material of painting with the advent of lacquer on the basis of traditional painting techniques. Lacquer obeys strictly compliance processes and techniques from all stages in order to build up the unique lacquer painting in Vietnam that can not find in any other country.

The meaning of cooperation

The cooperation in building multinational profile with South Korea and countries with intangible cultural heritage of traditional lacquer will contribute to preserving and promoting the unique value of traditional lacquer in Vietnam on the international level and to promote international cooperation in the field of intangible cultural heritage protection between countries in the region.
